The fall equinox is nearly here. The days of summer are coming to a close. This has easily been the hardest summer of my life. Trust me, I have had some doozies, but this one takes the cake. I am praying for a good fall to come. I know it is still a few days away, but my body is already in fall mode, urging me to harvest and nest. Yesterday, that is just what I did. As y’all know, I have been working on several tinctures. I finally got to bottle two of them yesterday; Echinacea flower and lemon balm. I think they both turned out quite nice.
Making tinctures is very simple, so rewarding, and a great way to preserve all those great herbs. If you are interested in making your own tinctures, you can read more about how we do it here. I am going to harvest this lovely sage and peppermint for my next round.
My chickens are feeling the change of the season too. I love my girls always, but there is something so delightful about their fall personalities. They lay such an abundance of eggs this time of year and are always open to extra snuggles. Here they are in their coop in the early morning light. They are ready to get their day started and so adorable!
I have been trying to spend extra meaningful, quality time with my loved ones lately. We have had such a rough road this summer, I want to cherish every moment I have with each of them. We received the horrible news yesterday that we lost a dear family friend. He felt lost and alone and chose to end his life. Reflecting on this makes my heart ache, but then I am instantly restored with love, faith, and hope because of this amazing support system I have been blessed with.
Never take your support system for granted. Be sure to tell your friends and family that you love them today. It could make all the difference in the world.
